Opportunity description

The purpose of this contract is the design and supply of two cofferdams with a span of 14 metres, intended to enable the Upper Scheldt locks belonging to the Walloon Region (Kain and Hérinnes sites) to be dewatered. The existing structures, built in the 1920s, are designed to accommodate class Va river traffic at most. The two locks have a similar design, so the cofferdams must be compatible with both structures. For information purposes, their design is also similar to that of the Berchem, Oudenaarde and Asper locks located in Flanders. The design water depths to be considered when sizing the metal structures are also comparable between the different sites. A cofferdam may consist of several separate elements assembled together by means of watertight seals. The total height of a cofferdam is set at 6 metres. The cofferdams must be sized in accordance with the regulations in force, and in particular the Eurocodes. Particular attention will be paid to the number of seals in the cofferdam, each of which constitutes a weak point for watertightness, as well as to the unit weight of its component elements, since the sites are difficult to access for high-capacity lifting equipment. The contract includes in particular: Verification of all dimensions in situ necessary for the preparation of workshop drawings; Provision of a complete execution calculation report including a report concerning handling; Manufacture of the cofferdams in the workshop; Transport of the cofferdams to their storage site (located at Kain, Hérinnes or another SPW VH Tournai site to be determined). Provision of a good-practice report relating to the service life of the structure, including in particular requirements concerning storage, replacement of seals, anticorrosion painting, safety instructions during handling operations, and the “As-built” dossier. The overall contract execution period is set at 240 calendar days and begins on the date set by the service order, in accordance with Article 116 of this C.S.C.
