Opportunity description

The renewal of the railway platform between the Hôpital Bellevue stop and Solaure station is a project led by Saint-Etienne Métropole. This section serves the southern districts of the City of Saint-Etienne from its starting point located at Hôpital Nord in the municipality of Saint Priest en Jarez. The affected line is T1, and it serves the main thoroughfare known as “Grand Rue”. This section consists of a double-track sector along rue Ambroise Paré and a loop-shaped sector composed of a single track. This loop allows tramway vehicles on track 2 to turn around from the Solaure stop heading north. It is useful for unidirectional rolling stock (Alsthom). The rolling stock has a width of 2.15m, i.e. a so-called custom width, and in the medium and long term it will be replaced by equipment with a standard width of at least 2.30m. This choice is motivated by the high cost of custom equipment. The footprint of the future platform must be able to accommodate the future rolling stock while maintaining urban integration and limiting its impact on existing infrastructure. It must also meet STRMTG requirements concerning the safety of railway traffic. This future infrastructure will meet the requirements of the cost, operability and maintainability report. It must address tomorrow's challenges related to climate disruption by combating heat islands and zenithal water management problems.
