Comprehensive Rehabilitation of the Quitzdorf Dam, TO 3, Access to the Waterside Construction Site (Procurement Unit 4-1) The Quitzdorf Dam is located in the district of Görlitz in the Free State of Saxony, in Upper Lusatia, near the town of Niesky. It is situated in the municipality of Quitzdorf am See, which consists of the former villages of Kollm and Sproitz. The project is located in the “Talsperre Quitzdorf und Kollmer Höhen” protected landscape area, which is part of the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape—one of the largest contiguous pond regions in Central Europe. The Quitzdorf Dam was constructed between 1965 and 1972 and impounds the Schwarzer Schöps River. The dam is a straight earth-fill dam made of gravel and sand with a clay-concrete core seal. The crest length is approximately 1,400 m, and the height above the valley floor is about 10.5 m. The total storage capacity is around 25.17 million m³, and the catchment area covers approximately 174.5 km². Today, the dam serves several purposes: flood protection, low-flow augmentation, water supply for the Lusatian mining region, industrial water supply, local recreation, and nature conservation. The waterside construction site includes, in particular, the area of the dam, the cantilever retaining walls, and the bottom outlet structure. After almost 50 years of operation, these structures require rehabilitation: • Deficiencies in the corrosion protection of the piping equipment • Wear and leaks in fittings, as well as outdated and inaccurate discharge measurement • Unclear separation of the facilities belonging to the LTV and the water users • Structural damage to the measuring-orifice shaft • General backlog of rehabilitation work on the bottom outlet building, as well as planned changes in the use of the rooms Selected structures and structural components in the waterside construction site at the main dam will be rehabilitated, repaired, or replaced by a new structure so that serviceability, load-bearing capacity, and particularly durability are ensured for the coming decades, and so that the dam and associated structures can continue to perform their principal functions in the best possible manner. The works described below will be carried out ahead of the main construction sites because the actual construction work can take place only after the planned complete drawdown of the reservoir. The period until drawdown will therefore be used to implement preparatory measures, particularly to provide access to the subsequent construction sites and to carry out the required fish removal. The construction project is divided into two construction phases resulting from the drawdown stages. Construction phase 1 comprises all measures down to a water level of 154.50 m above sea level, while construction phase 2 includes all work that can be performed only after residual drainage. Separate VOB acceptances apply to the individual construction phases.
