The Bad Salzig wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), located in the Middle Rhine Valley on the northern outskirts of Bad Salzig, was commissioned in 1987 using the wastewater treatment process with simultaneous sludge stabilization. The current permit specifies a design capacity of 7,300 population equivalents. The wastewater treatment plant site has topographical elevations between approximately 87 m and 80 m above sea level and slopes down toward the northeast and the Rhine. The railway line between Koblenz and Mainz and the B9 federal highway run immediately below the wastewater treatment plant. The parallel Rhine is approximately 50 m away. The railway line lies at approximately 76 m above sea level; the mean water level of the Rhine can be stated as approximately 64.5 m above sea level.
