As part of its responsibility for nature and species conservation, Leipzig Zoo is a partner in the LIFE4HamsterSaxony project, which is co-financed by the European Union. The main focus of the project is to establish a stable European hamster population in the northwestern Saxony project area by testing and gradually implementing European hamster-friendly agricultural measures, as well as breeding and releasing European hamsters into the wild through Leipzig Zoo. Wildlife cameras are required both for scientific monitoring and for evaluating success.
