Stadtwerke Görlitz AG—Expansion of the EEQ 1/1+ and 4 local heating network - Planning services for civil engineering structures, technical equipment; service phases 4 - 9. Stadtwerke Görlitz AG is expanding the district heating network in order to advance the energy transition and reduce CO₂ emissions. With the ERDF-funded measure, the catchment area of EEQs 1 and 1+ and EEQ 4 will be expanded through the construction of additional routes in Leipziger Straße and Rauschwalder Straße. This enables an efficient and environmentally friendly heat supply from existing facilities with a sustainable energy mix. In the overall energy concept for the city center, heating networks were identified as an alternative for increasing energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions in inner-city areas with listed buildings. This approach was already supported with specific projects in previous ERDF funding periods and is being consistently continued with the current project. For the time being, the EEQs are self-contained and supply their respective neighborhoods. In the future, a connection to the cross-border district heating project "United Heat" is planned, which aims to establish a climate-neutral heat supply by 2030. This project combines diverse resources and innovative generation technologies in order to decarbonize the heat supply in the future and ensure it at all times. In addition to biomass, technologies such as an approximately 4 ha solar thermal facility with a seasonal pit thermal energy storage facility of approximately 300,000m³ will be used. The solar thermal facility is intended to capture excess solar energy during the summer months and store it in the pit thermal energy storage facility, so that this heat can then be fed into the district heating network on cloudy days and into the transitional season. In addition to these technologies, heat pumps will also be used, utilizing the heat in the outflow from the Görlitz wastewater treatment plant as well as the heat potential of Lake Berzdorf. The four existing district heating networks are to be interconnected by 2030 and converted entirely to renewable energy sources. In this context, the existing local heating neighborhoods are to be connected to this CO2-neutral district heating supply. This enables the greatest possible security of supply and the maximum proportion of renewable energy. With the network densification in Leipziger Straße and Rauschwalder Straße, Stadtwerke Görlitz AG is relying on a future-proof, sustainable and secure heat supply through modern technologies and renewable energy sources, thereby supporting sustainable urban development.
