District road R 21 connects the Regenstauf area with junction 20 of the BAB A93 as well as with surrounding commercial and residential areas. The section is characterized by a high and tendentially increasing volume of traffic. Bridge structure 6838-916 (foreland/flood bridge), with a structure length of approx. 80 m, is located along the route. The existing structure was designed and classified in accordance with the regulations applicable at the time. The objective of the project is the replacement construction of bridge structure 6838-916 at the same location, taking into account constructional, water management and economic aspects. The road safety and capacity of district road R 21 must be ensured during the construction period. For this purpose, the technical and water management feasibility of a two-lane bypass as a construction-phase and temporary-works concept, e.g. a temporary bypass or temporary bridge, must be assessed.
