Opportunity description

The Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment is planning the complete reconstruction of the Unter den Linden road from Pariser Platz to Schloßbrücke. As an advance measure, the central promenade from Wilhelmstraße to Universitätsstraße will be redesigned. As part of the measure, approximately 157 silver lime trees of the `Brabant´ variety are to be planted, approximately 80 declining existing trees felled, 2 existing trees from 1936 retained, and approximately 21 existing trees transplanted to another location. The silver lime trees were already selected and purchased in 2023 and will therefore be provided by the contracting authority. Since 2023, they have been cared for in the 2 supplying tree nurseries, brought to the most uniform possible quality, and prepared for the site. For the new planting, a planting trench approximately 2.3 m wide and 1.5m deep will be constructed. The excavated material is to be removed and disposed of. The planting trench will be backfilled with structurally stable tree substrate and 30 cm of topsoil, as well as a covering of mineral mulch. The 2.3 m-wide planting strip will receive species-rich perennial planting. The planting strips will be divided into bed segments with paved passageways and will be edged with a raised granite base topped with a border fence. An automatic irrigation system with drip hoses is to be installed. The existing benches will be replaced with new benches. These new benches were developed for the Unter den Linden site and will be provided on site by the contracting authority. The existing light steles will be removed by Stromnetz Berlin and reinstalled by Stromnetz Berlin after the substrate has been installed. Individual light steles will be relocated to a new location in the process. The scope of work for the construction measure described here includes the construction of the utility trench and the laying of empty conduits. Following the completion maintenance period of up to 1 year, a 3-year establishment maintenance period will follow. Implementation is to take place in 5 sections, which are defined by the traffic junctions. The start of execution is planned for the IV quarter of 2026, but no later than after the contract has been awarded. Completion of the construction work, including completion maintenance, is planned by mid-2029. This will be followed by establishment maintenance until mid-2032. In order to limit the duration of restrictions on the public, completed sections are to be made available for public use again.
