Structural engineering design The BPOLABT BDÜ, a multifunctional operational unit of the Federal Riot Police Directorate (BPOLD BP) within the internal security system of the Federal Republic of Germany, performs extensive and diverse policing and specialist policing duties, focusing primarily on border protection, railway policing, and aviation security. Its considerable range of duties also includes, at the request of the federal states, reinforcing the state police forces in managing large-scale operations, supporting other federal authorities (e.g. BKA, BZV), supporting the Federal Foreign Office in carrying out protection duties in Germany and abroad, as well as providing assistance in the event of disasters (e.g. flooding, snow disasters). The Federal Police has an accommodation requirement for 4 operational units (EHu), which are to be housed in Buildings 17 and 18. Buildings 17 and 18 were constructed in 1973 as four-storey, non-basement reinforced-concrete structures using the standardized VGB storey construction method. The two buildings stand parallel to one another. Building 17 is identical to Building 18; it has merely been rotated by 180°. The floor-plan dimensions are approximately 78.50 m in length and 17.30 m in width. The existing parapet is 14.20 m high. Each building has two stairwells. In the VGB construction method, the load-bearing structure consists of columns, beams, one-way spanning floor slabs, and bracing shear walls. The roof is a warm roof with internal drainage. The objective is the complete refurbishment of both buildings. Building Information Modeling is to be applied in this process.
