Complete QKD system (entanglement-based) with two point-to-point connections and the possibility of connection to the municipal quantum network The construction and applications of future quantum networks are important research topics at the DLR Institute of Quantum Technologies. The establishment of an in-house, entanglement-based, multi-party QKD network on site with connection to the Ulm quantum network pursues a number of scientific objectives, including: 1. fundamental research into photonic quantum network hardware; 2. information-theoretical research into secure communication, quantum authentication and network design; 3. the development of advanced network applications, application scenarios, security tests and countermeasures against possible attacks. 4. the implementation of technology demonstrations and tests of relevant operating scenarios in the urban environment. The overall system to be supplied includes QKD equipment suitable for a three-party quantum key distribution network (Quantum Key Distribution, QKD) with two point-to-point links and consisting of one transmitter node (Alice) and two receiver nodes (Bob 1 and Bob 2). In addition, it must be possible to exchange key pairs among all 3 parties, e.g. with the aid of Key Forwarding.
