The German Mining Museum is constructing a research building with an integrated depot on a currently vacant open area. The new building houses collection and depot areas, office areas, a logistics area, and associated social, ancillary, and technical rooms. In the future, the collection and depot areas will mainly be used to store mining collection objects. The collection areas are located one above the other in three different areas/floors (photo library, archive, library), supplemented by special-purpose rooms, etc., while the depot areas will be grouped into clusters that are as large and flexibly usable as possible. The procedure serves to procure storage technology to equip the depot building with the required storage and safekeeping equipment. The following items relate to the delivery and installation of heavy-duty steel pallet racks. In accordance with DIN EN 15635, each racking system must be permanently and clearly marked with load signs. The marking must contain at least information on the manufacturer, year of construction, bay loads, shelf loads, and maximum storage unit. The following principles must be taken into account for execution: Rack height = upper storage level Outer rack uprights must be 500mm higher or fitted with appropriate fall protection. For all other rack uprights, the upper storage level should finish flush with the rack upright in order to ensure uninterrupted storage of objects without restriction. Shelf width = clear usable width of the racks Rack frames in accordance with the statically required design depending on the manufacturer. Width approx. 85-100 mm, incl. base plates and fastening material Height adjustment: Levels should be adjustable in height on a 50mm grid. Beams as box sections, designed for a load of: 1000 kg / storage position Width 1850 mm = 2 storage positions Width 2700 mm = 3 storage positions Width 3600 mm = 4 storage positions Rack depth: The rack depth described refers to the actual depth of the racks. A depth of 1200 mm is required for the storage of works of art and cultural assets because not all objects are placed on pallets or finish flush with them. The rack depth of 1100mm corresponds to the depth of a EURO pallet and thus provides additional protection for the respective collection item. Surface: Rack uprights and infill: galvanized Beams: powder-coated Mesh supports: galvanized Mobile racking systems All described racking systems must be available in identical construction as fixed racks with a fixed rack base and mobile rack carriages with manual or electric drive. The rack drive of the mobile carriages must be designed as a positive drive with a galvanized chain running in the floor. Since mobile carriages with loads of varying lightness or heaviness are to be expected in some cases, a friction-based friction-wheel drive does not meet the minimum requirements and is therefore not permitted. Mobile rack carriages: Designed as a torsion-resistant steel construction with a material thickness of at least 2.5 mm, powder-coated surface. The entire rack drive must be installed in the undercarriage in a manner that permits inspection. Structural tolerances in the rail system must be capable of being compensated for, e.g. by adjustable wheel axles. The sprockets of the rack drive must not touch the lowest carriage cover (shelf) at any point or restrict its use. It must be possible to install the carriage cover directly on the undercarriage so as not to restrict use. The distance between the mobile carriages and the floor must not exceed 15mm at any point for a permissible bay load of up to 2000 kg, or 30mm for a permissible bay load exceeding 2000 kg. All mobile carriages must be fitted with rubber buffers that ensure the safety clearance of at least 25 mm required by the employers' liability insurance association and additionally dampen impact noise. Quality wheels of at least 100mm diameter made of steel or cast iron with maintenance-free quality ball bearings. Load capacity of the wheels at least 700kg per wheel. Drive: Positive, with a drive via a sprocket that engages with the floor chain. Rack carriages more than 5000mm long must be fitted with at least a second drive that ensures the parallel movement of the mobile carriages. Manual drive by means of a crank or enclosed handwheel on one end of the carriages (reduction ratio at least 1:3000). It must be ensured that all carriages in a block can be moved using a single control. The rack drive must be freely accessible from the outside for maintenance. Fixed racks: Fixed racks that stand within a mobile racking system or form the end of a mobile racking system must be supplied with a fixed rack base that is identical in construction to the undercarriage of the mobile carriages, but has no rack drive and stands directly on the rail system instead of on wheelsets. For visual reasons, the 15 mm safety clearance from the floor should also be maintained here. Rail system for mobile racking systems Installation as a raised platform floor The rail systems are designed as a raised platform floor with an installation height of 50 mm Rails made of solid steel with a smooth surface, galvanized in accordance with the relevant DIN standards EN 10025-2:2004-10. (running rails, guide rails, chain channel, anti-tipping device). Chain/guide: The arrangement of the chain(s) and guide rails must ensure uniform movement of the carriages without jamming. For longer carriages (>5500mm), at least 2 chains must be provided. The number of necessary rails must be determined as required and designed for the loads expected to be supported. The specified number in the specifications is to be regarded as a minimum requirement and is based on the assumed loads and the load distribution on the concrete ceiling. An integrated anti-tipping device must be provided along the entire length of the mobile racking system in order to be able to respond flexibly to future requirements and expansions of the storage technology. Payloads for raised platform floors: A live load of min. 250 kg/m2 must be assumed. Concentrated loads must be taken into account so that the platform can be traversed by a pallet truck carrying a 300 kg load. Delivery and installation of shelving racks In accordance with DIN EN 15635, each racking system must be permanently and clearly marked with load signs. The marking must contain at least information on the manufacturer, year of construction, bay loads, shelf loads, and maximum storage unit. The stated dimensions are to be understood as approximate target dimensions for the storage technology and may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. A continuous racking system must be offered that ensures the greatest possible utilization of the available area. An on-site measurement must be factored into the tender and is to be carried out in connection with the workshop and execution planning. All dimensions must be checked at the construction site before execution.
