Opportunity description
In 2021, the European Commission launched the Global Gateway investment strategy, which aims to address the infrastructure needs of partner countries with innovative, high-quality solutions, while creating local added value and promoting economic growth, employment, and social cohesion. During the III EU-CELAC Summit, held in July 2023, the leaders of both regions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the bi-regional partnership, recognizing the importance of the Global Gateway Investment Agenda. The overall objective of this action is to contribute to the implementation of sustainable and transformative investments of European interest in Guatemala, within the framework of the Global Gateway Investment Agenda, ensuring their alignment with the country's strategic priorities and fostering inclusive and sustainable development. The Technical Assistance will contribute to improving the alignment, coordination, and monitoring of initiatives implemented within the framework of the Global Gateway Investment Agenda in Guatemala; promoting a regulatory and institutional framework that favors sustainable investment in the priority sectors of the Global Gateway Investment Agenda; advancing sustainable, transformative investment projects that are sensitive to gender equality and international best practices regarding rights and environmental protection in the priority sectors; and positioning the interests of the European private sector within the framework of the Global Gateway Investment Agenda for Guatemala. Without claiming to be exclusive and recognizing the dynamic flexibility of the Global Gateway strategy, the priority areas for Guatemala currently include green transition, circular economy, digital transition and, at the regional level, regional electricity integration.
