Netherlands – Compulsory social security services – Municipal collective health insurance for low-income residents (municipal policy)

Opportunity description

The municipality of Land van Cuijk currently purchases collective health insurance for low-income residents from VGZ. We would like to continue this so that residents with a low income (up to 120% of the statutory minimum) can continue to make use of it. The target group consists of a vulnerable group of people for whom switching health insurance poses a risk. As a result of financial stress, they are not always able to properly understand what is being asked of them and what the consequences of certain choices are. Switching health insurance may lead to the loss of participants, who may consequently be at risk of unexpectedly high healthcare costs, resulting in financial problems. In addition, organizing a smooth transition from VGZ to a potential new contracting partner is expected to require significant additional effort, which is not currently available.
